Day 6: Happy Nikolaustag! December 6, 2009

In Germany the 6th December is “Nikolaustag”, St. Nikolaus’ Day. Children put their boots outside their doors the evening before and if they have been good, the Nikolaus will put little gifts into them. Bad kids on the other hand will only get a bunch of twigs.

Although the traditional Nikolaus looks different to the “modern” Santa Claus, I thought that today would be the best day to introduce Santa Claus and Mrs Claus. Both are designed by Gocha Merlin from !go! avatars, who also created the cute christmas elf girl shown in previous posts. Santa Claus comes with two different hats and a huge gift box for all the good children.

Mrs Claus is so adorable and cheerful. Her wardrobe is a bit more extensive, with a chequered dress, a red Santa dress and a baking apron. You know the saying that behind every successful man is a strong woman? It is true! And she has her rolling pin ready to hand, in case Mr Claus is coming home too late and had a bit too much egg nogg.

But she has never, not once, used it so far.

Day 5: I’m dreaming of a white christmas… December 5, 2009

…but I have the feeling that the rain is going to last until the new year! At least in SL I can have every virtual weather I want and I can even carry it around on my head!

When you click this cute winter hat from Little Girl Shop it sings the first line of “White Christmas” and starts to emit snow particles. “Little Girl Shop” has tons of cute pets and dolls (see also Fi’s post from last year here), like fluffy rabbits hanging on a balloon and flying around you, or little dolls sitting on your shoulder or hair. Like this hat, most of them are transferable.

Day 4: Meet Mr Snowpants December 4, 2009

A while ago I blogged about the little pet robodog by Pannie’s. But “Claude” was not the only pet I picked that day from their large range. The other one was a pet snowman, whom I named “Mr Snowpants” after I had rezzed him at home.

Mr Snowpants follows you around and listens to different commands, which are specified in a notecard. For example, “stay” makes him stay put at his current spot, whereas “hat” lets him lift his top hat and wave merrily. He can even play “peek-a-boo” and pose like a model!

But be careful when you use “melt”, or he might be suddenly gone – NOOOOOOO!

Don’t worry, Mr Snowpants was never seriously hurt in this photo shoot and instantly came to life a second later. He is transferable, so might make a good christmas present. And if you like reindeers, you should check out the whimsical log reindeer, which can disguise itself as a woodpile on command!

Day 3: Rock, hop ‘n’ roll December 3, 2009

The SL rockhopper penguin (Eudyptes virtualis) is a rare species. It prefers snowy landscapes and icy ponds but has adjusted well to the predominantly tropical climate of Second Life. Rockhopper penguins originally received their name due to their tendency to hop over rocks and boulders rather than to climb over them awkwardly. SL rockhoppers have extended this behaviour and like to burst into spontaneous dance. They are very friendly and curious creatures, unless they encounter bling or certain free, adult prim attachments – in this case, you better watch out!

Day 2: The biggest snowball of them all December 2, 2009

Lolita Oleander recently declared a Snowball War on us and luckily I am well equipped with the thrower of all snowball throwers. After attaching the “SnowBall Genkidama” and switching to mouselook, one mouseclick activates the charging of the snowball. The snowball is hovering over your head and the longer you leave it, the bigger it grows, accompanied by dramatic particle effects. Another mouseclick releases the giant snowball and buries everyone and everything in front of you underneath it. Bring it on!
